Just the way you are

He took a moment to appreciate the love he had for her. It had only been a month, yet it felt like just two days. There was still so much about her he wanted to uncover. From the secret of what truly drove her, to the spots on her face that he hadn’t kissed yet—he wanted to explore everything about her. From all the times she’d blown his mind to all the times she’d taught him what butterflies in the stomach really meant. And those kisses on the cheek…

He reminisces this one day they went to have Gelato. Right before falling asleep, the brain processes the day’s events. If one had spent time at the beach, they’d hear the waves as they drifted off. If they had gone to an amusement park, they might feel their head still spinning from a ride. And he felt her. Kissing his cheeks, as he fell asleep. There was no way to describe that heavenly feeling—it was divine. He couldn’t even imagine what it would be like if she were truly there, kissing his cheeks as he dozed off.

The fact that she was such a dominant woman in her social life, yet he was the only one who got to explore her softer feminine side, meant the world to him. And she had a brain—something that was rare among the pretty girls he’d spoken to, who often turned out to be shallow. She understood deep concepts the way he did, the way he hoped a potential partner would. She valued his time and respected him, two of the most important things to him. The fact that she had opened up about one of her insecurities only deepened his affection for her.

All those bracelets he’d never wear, all those paper hearts he’d probably tuck away in a box and forget—they meant so much to him. No one had ever treated him like she did. No one had ever come close to loving him the way she did. He’d never truly felt loved before. His parents’ love had always felt conditional. She reminded him of his grandfather—the one person who had loved him unconditionally, no matter what he did or who he was. She loved him, not for who he might become in the future, but for who he was right then. All of him.

And he wanted to love her the same way. The beautiful, the good, the bad, the ugly—he wanted to love all of it. Just her. Just the way she was. Just the way you are.
